Welcome World

Our congress is already in progress. Finally and after a few difficulties, we can announce the 4th International Congress of SEFID, to be held in Valladolid from May 4 to 6, 2017. In this edition the organization of the congress has been possible thanks to the collaboration and effort of the Official College of Physiotherapists Of Castilla-León.

His unconditional support has been the reason that we have decided to hold the congress in Valladolid.

As usual we will have speakers of considerable prestige from the clinical point of view as well as in the field of research in pain.

We will have 2 workshops. One of Graded Motor Imagery that will be taught by David Butler and the other of Interdisciplinary Approach to Chronic Pain taught by Chris Main and Kevin Vowles.

This congress aims to offer a wide view on different aspects currently relevant in the treatment of pain. We will have different tables on: education in neurobiology of pain, complex regional pain syndrome, interdisciplinary approaches in chronic pain, pain and physical activity, pain in childhood and pain in special clinical situations.

But, in addition, we want this conference to allow us to discuss the role it plays nowadays and what physiotherapy should play in the world of pain in the future. Let us bear in mind that pain is the first reason the population goes to the physiotherapist. Currently many recommendations and clinical guidelines consider that physiotherapy plays a central role in the treatment of pain and in the prevention of chronic disability related to pain. However, neither the health authorities nor other health professionals nor our profession is aware of the role that physiotherapy can play in the management of patients with chronic pain. For this, it is necessary to have an updated knowledge, being essential to deepen the neurophysiology of pain and learn new treatment strategies. Still in our country, it seems that the conviction that the management of the patient with pain, especially of complex pain, requires a sufficient degree of specialization, as well as an extension of our competences and clinical skills, has not been fully understood.

Physiotherapy specialized in the treatment of pain would have truly significant results in the economic and social costs of pain; Would reduce both health expenditure and disability compensation and, evidently, would significantly improve the quality of life of patients with pain.

It was our conviction that a change in the care model of the patient with pain was urgent, which prompted us to constitute the Spanish Society of Physical Therapy and Pain. As a scientific society our first objective is to promote advances in research and study of pain and to train physiotherapists in new treatment strategies. We believe that physiotherapy can lead a change in the model of patient care, but for this it is essential to establish fruitful relationships with other health professionals, hence our society is multidisciplinary, trying to serve as a platform for meeting among all those who are involved in pain. Only in this way will we achieve that the revolution in the world of pain has an impact on better patient care. We invite you to join us in this exciting revolution. See you in Valladolid.
